The GFA 2008 turned out to be a fantastic trip
all round (unless you were Marto….) and not only did
we improve our performance on the field, but we also had a
much more organised and better structured Head Quarters.
Blackers really set us up for success securing a much better
campsite and equipment than the pig pen we created in 2007
as well as providing the security to ensure our campsite had
no unwelcome visitors.
The Skip led the way with the bat top scoring for the Carnival
with 144 runs and Miller and Rocket had a field day with the
ball.
Other highlights included………….
1st Days Play...
After a very successful (& long)
Presentation Night the boys faced up to Gone Fourex
Troppo
With much anticipation after a 1 year build the
boys were pumped and ready to fire.
There was a little trepidation in the air as there
was a little uncertainty if we were safe from
another Spider monkey attack. There was an ugly
incident in the campsite the previous night that
had a few of the boys spooked.
With the video booth set to fire we had a slight
anti climax when Marto’s was rushed to hospital
with a severely infected leg. Went a little to
hard at Rage against the machine in Sydney.
Reporters from the Townsville Bulletin stopped
in for an interview with the Skip and ended up
partying with the Team until very early Sunday
morning.
Very solid win on day 1 and the Dazzlers stand
by their motto of ‘It’s all about
Day 1!
1. Top Scorers were Skip (50) & Gumby (53)
2. Best Bowling was Miller with 3 for 17 and Rocket
with 2 for 7
3. Best On Ground was Miller
2nd Days Play...
After a very long night celebrating
the first up success the ‘Big Dog’
set the pace for the day by opening a can of bourbon
WITH HIS TEETH. After biting through can he proceeded
to skull the drink through the gapping hole before
heading out to bat at 8.30am. He returned some
2 minutes later??
The Dazzlers were taught a valuable lesson in
game 2 by the Violators. Communication concerns
between the two teams and some integrity issues
re the LBW rule stripped victory from us. Skip
and the VC have vowed to never be taken advantage
of again in this way.
1. Top Scorers were Chook (51) & Locky (50)
2. Best Bowling was Waters with 2 for 27 and Cams
with 2 for 31
3. Best On Ground Chooky (Straight up after getting
freight trained by Butters!!!)
Celebrations on the Saturday night saw the unleashing
of the terror twins……………………………
3rd Days Play, The
final Day.
The FarQ’s did not know what
they were in for when they fronted up against
the jugger naught that is the Dazzlers on Day
3
WIN News / Channel Nine paid us a visit for some
filming of our Dazzlers TV commentary position
and also did some filming of our set up for the
Gold Field Ashes ad campaign for ‘09
There were not many highlights in this very lopsided
game and the only 2 points to mention was the
Skip (AKA Big Spank) hitting the biggest 6 in
GFA history. The Westpac rescue chopper had to
be called in to retrieve the ball and Rhino bowling
out and young boy while wearing a MANKINI. It
is hard to get much detail as we are now only
able to communicate with the boys family by our
solicitor due to legal complications, but it is
believed that the poor fellow will be receiving
counselling for some time to come. The positive
is though that we believe the nightmares have
stopped???
Presentations for the Carnival Awards were held
at GFA Headquarters.
1. Top Scorers were Skip (53) & Miller (50)
2. Best Bowling was Miller with 4 for 9 &
Rocket with 3 for 13
3. Best On Ground Rhino (Mankini)
