Goldfield Ashes 09

The 2009 Carnival (or the 3 & 0 show as it is now known) was an outstanding success for the Dazzlers.

The Team dominated both on and off the field and did not feel the crushing shame of defeat for the entire weekend.

Highlight of the weekend had to be the come from behind win on day 2 where the big guns failed to fire and the rest of the team had to pull together for a very hard fought win.

The ‘Brand’ also enjoyed more media exposure on ABC National Radio and the Northern Miner newspaper + took things to a whole new level when hitting the Charters night spots.

The campsite and main tent in general came under fire yet again with massive downpours on the Sunday night. Several Dazzlers were soaked and if was not for the efforts of Rod and Lachy the whole campsite would have been lost.

There was some new blood in the Team this year. Matt (Cams younger brother) was an instant hit with the boys, Spackman was a 1st year sensation and as usual the Skip led the way on the field.

Well done Dazzlers. Looks like 2010 is going to be DYNAMITE!!! Hopefully we will have all the crew back and we are looking forward to seeing Rassy, Scotty and Rhino for our 10th Anniversary Celebrations.

1st Days Play...

To the delight of all, the Campsite went up in record time and after setting the benchmark for standards last year the boys put together what we thought was another top notch facility. Little did we know that the site would be infiltrated during the weekend by extreme whether conditions & ‘Rob from Punchy’………

The presentation ceremony went well with 2 new Dazzlers coming on board (Big Cams and Spackman), Miller receiving a 150 game award and the Skip being inducted into the Hall of Fame. As usual getting to bed early for a big game on Day 1 did not eventuate???

Day 1 the Dazzlers faced a somewhat daunting ‘Wanderers’ side led by Hoss Cartright and his brother Little Joe. After a little trepidation leading into the Game the Dazzlers easily accounted for these good ‘ol boys.

The Dazzler motto of ‘Its All About Day 1’ looked to be continuing in ’09. 50’s from Spackman on Debut, Cams and 46 from Waters ensured a crushing Victory. 3 wickets apiece from Brad & Lachy wrapped things up quickly in the field. Particularly when the opposition appeared to be morally opposed to running singles?

Best on Ground was taken out by Spackman with Gumby kicking of his perennial chase for the N.T.P.T with a spectacular semi nude body slide and a disgusting assault on the Waverly.

Off the field Marto taped a ‘Live To Air’ interview about the Team with ABC National Radio and the Team commenced their TOTAL dominance of Charters Towers Nightspots!!

2nd Days Play...

Day 2 the boys faced up to the very confident and capable Red Rats. This side somewhat resembled the Dazzlers (ie very similar vocabularies and Team support techniques) and looked the goods early.

A Solid performance by the Dazzlers in the field, led by the Skip, Rocket, Lachy and Chook all taking 2 wickets and very few chances going down in the field set the Team up for a attainable chase. To the great satisfaction of the mere mortals in the side, Spackman proved he was human with a massive face plant late in the innings!!

This day not only broke the Dazzlers Duck of having never won on Day 2, but could go down as the best Overall TEAM performance in the Club’s history. With all the Big Guns failing to score as heavily as expected the Team had to dig deep. Lachy Mason anchored the innings and was ably supported by the Dazzlers lower order as the tail wagged us home.

Lachy took out the best on ground and saved the day!

The night time activities were marred with a couple of unsavoury incidents. The VC had to deal with the Poked Skipper when he put a whole in his manners and the Big Dog made an unnamed Team pay heavily for leaving their mascot unguarded???

3rd Days Play, The final Day.

After a very late night on Sunday (as usual?) that included Miller paying tribute the the M.I.A. Rhino with a superb Pony Ride while lost on Jackson St, the site was hammered with the usual torrential rains we seem to encounter when in Charters.

While the playing talent was trying to capture a couple of hours sleep we were woken by the Shrill screams of a very ‘Bad’ man. Some thought that someone had had a shot at the B.O.P. but it became evident that this was not the case…….

The Marquee had ¾’s collapsed and without the urgent and skilful work of Lachy and Rocket the entire campsite would have been a washout. Most Dazzlers were quick to assist, while Butters and the Skip apparently slept through the entire thing?

After limited sleep and way to much partying the Dazzlers faced up to a potential washout on the Monday. However once it was identified that we were to play a Twenty20 against the top side the Skip rallied the boys: “Suit Up Bitches” was the order and the boys stepped up to dominate the 1st placed side.

A crushing victory led by a lighting opening cameo from the Big Dog who had been moved up the order by a masterful strategic move from the Skip and 50’s from Gumby (50 from 17 balls) and the Skip (50 from 15 balls) ensured that the Dazzlers would not taste defeat in 2009.

Best on Ground was Gumby and the Legend of “2009 – The 3 & 0 Show” was born……………………..
